Problem in google search

Google has a "site" previx search using this pattern: site:url (search terms) This limits the search to the url. When reviewing and going to search results the above sometimes disappears from the google search field,ie it is empty. If wanting to modify (serch terms) one has to re-enter all the above. Without the "site:" prefix it does not seem to happen. Has anyone a thought if this is a lynx thing or google search? Thnks. -- Dan d.
