That’s independent of the terminal and the website in question.
It occasionally happens for some sites; for most, it works on
the second try.

Unfortunately, ‘z’ and ^G don’t work to interrupt this, but this does:

$ gdb /usr/bin/lynx «pid-of-lynx»
(gdb) print (int)close(3)
(gdb) ^D
yes detach it
