Slackware lynx gopher umlauts sometimes now shown

Hello! Lynx Version 2.9.2 (31 May 2024) libwww-FM 2.14, SSL-MM 1.4.1, OpenSSL 3.4.0, ncurses 6.5.20240427(wide) Built on linux-gnu (Aug 14 2024 19:16:02). lynx gopher://taz.de open some articles and check for double spaces. I am running lynx on Slackware current to view some gopherholes. I experience that sometimes German special characters (ä, ö, ß) are displayed as white space - only sometimes. Normal ASCII characters are also sometimes affected. This only happens on that system, Debian or Fedora are fine.
