The Mason team is pleased to announce Mason 1.29_01, the first alpha release
candidate for Mason 1.3.
Two major themes for this release:
* Performance. Raw overhead of component calls has been reduced
significantly. All configurations should experience some improvement, but
the greatest is for static source mode (in which Mason assumes that
components remain unchanged). Static source mode was also made easier to use
with a touch file mechanism, and we hope more sites will use it in
production. Other miscellaneous optimizations included, such as faster
string output if autoflush is disabled.
* Plugins. You can now register plugin classes that perform actions at key
points, e.g. before and after each request and each component call. This
will make it much easier to modify Mason's behavior without having to
subclass Mason itself. We hope to see plugin classes appearing under CPAN's
MasonX:: once 1.3 is in wide use.
Other changes include
* More robust object file versioning
* Ability to enable or disable component roots per request
* New build system based on Module::Build
Thanks to Amazon.com for supporting much of this work and allowing its
unrestricted release.
Because this is an _01 version, you'll have to refer to it explicitly when
installing via CPAN:
install D/DR/DROLSKY/HTML-Mason-1.29_01.tar.gz
As always, report problems to the user's list. Enjoy!
Jon
