Problem building HTML::Mason 1.52

I (and some of my users) have encountered a problem when attempting to
build version 1.52 under perl 5.10 and 5.12.  Basically, it looks as if the
archive or the Makefile.PL is confused.  I get the following output when
attempting a build under CPAN:

Running make for J/JS/JSWARTZ/HTML-Mason-1.52.tar.gz
Checksum for /home/atm/perl512/plib/.cpan/source/authors/id/J/JS/JSWARTZ/HTML-Mason-1.52.tar.gz
ok
Package seems to come without Makefile.PL.
  (The test -f "/home/atm/perl512/plib/.cpan/build/JSWARTZ-XzFvk0/Makefile.PL"
returned false.)
  Writing one on our own (setting NAME to HTMLMason)

  CPAN.pm: Going to build J/JS/JSWARTZ/HTML-Mason-1.52.tar.gz
