server side redirects for commands

How about this use case:
The site (portal?) has three levels of services and subscribers: 
  1) Basic: has standard set of features;
  2) Premium: Basic + more features;
  3) Premium Plus: Premium + even more features.

The application is written as chains of servlet filters, mapped through
web.xml. This makes composing a more complex views and models for more 
advanced users a matter of adding new controllers to the basic chain.

I know, same thing can be done by constructing inheritance trees.
As I see, this leads to discussion of design decisions and preferences.
More specifically, to discussion of differences between object-oriented
versus component-oriented design.
