Hi,

it seems to me that the midgard VHost is Memory-Leaking en large. It became
appearant during the release publishing, where we sort-of slashdotted (or better
midgarddotted) ourselves.

A few numbers:

Mem: 2068332k total, 1872752k used, 195580k free, 764k buffers
Swap: 2097136k total, 2089256k used, 7880k free, 82776k cached

USER VIRT RES SHR SWAP CODE DATA %MEM TIME+ %CPU COMMAND

www-data 236m 221m 3308 14m 188 221m 11.0 0:56.28 0.0 apache

www-data 224m 209m 136 15m 8 209m 10.4 0:27.59 0.0 apache
...

This effectivly froze the entire system for at least 30 minutes.

I have currently put on quite hard limits on the server, by disabling keepalives
and limiting max. requests per child to 10. This effectivly hides the problem
and keeps the server running. Not that I'd call it "good".

This is most probably related to the memory leaks repeatedly reported in older
Midgard versions.

Thus, I'd like to have the following things done for the Midgard server:

- - Upgrade to Midgard 1.7.4
- - If possible, upgrade MidCOM to 2.5 CVS HEAD
- - newsticker and photos should be hot-patched to register no leaves in the
  system.

I don't have the time to do this personally (as I don't maintain that server
anyway), but these problems need to be adressed if we want a reachable website
(and continous hosting on Nathan).

Live long and Prosper!
