OK, since my second post I have discovered that the early example pages
in the Ming tutorial at sourceforge.net are only code snippets and not
full scripts. That of course is why they wouldn't run.
Seems that since I dropped that pre-compiled php_ming.so file into
/usr/lib/php4, added reference to it in php.ini and restarted Apache,
things have been fine.
I'm not even going to attempt at guessing why the "official" .tgz
archive contains code which doesn't even compile. It's pretty close to
a year-and-a-half old now. Pretty sad.
Most of the tutorials at sourceforge.net work as intended yet a few of
them still do not.
flashdot.php, for example, works from the online tutorial page but will
not work from my local machine. Dunno why not (yet).
