I posted this to the blog but figured I'd post it to the list, too. It's an interesting potential application of mod_pubsub... http://dannyayers.com/archives/001550.html "Too Late" notification Lets you know someone has posted a follow-up mail/comment while you are typing up your own. How often has that happened? You type something into blog comments or a mailing list and hit 'send' only to find someone's already provided a similar response (usually much better than yours). It would save time to get a warning popup before you got onto the 1001th page of the essay. My first guess is that this would need to be addressed way down at the bottom of the architectural pile, but maybe there is a simple way of doing it. Who's likely to have a cunning plan : the LazyWeb of course! Posted by DannyAyers at July 13, 2003 10:18 AM | TrackBack Comments this would be a bloody great feature. Posted by: Phil Wilson at July 13, 2003 03:05 PM Agreed. Posted by: Michael Fagan at July 14, 2003 12:51 AM This brings to mind the real-time weblog aggregator called Blogchatter, which is a constantly-updated (i.e. you see the pings as they come in, and you don't have to refresh) counterpart to weblogs.com or blo.gs. It seems to be built on mod_pubsub, which facilitates real-time publishing. Or, you could have an RSS feed of comments for each article, and subscribe to it whilst writing the comments. And maybe use XSLT to create a frequently-refreshing pop-up that lists new comments. Hope this helps. Cheers, Derek. Posted by: Derek Murray at July 14, 2003 02:49 PM I agree with Danny, this would be quite a useful feature. Derek's point is a good one too: this is a good potential use for mod_pubsub. I'll bring it up with our devs...
