IE6SP1 and buffering

I've found IE6 SP1 processes data in increments of 256 bytes, which is much
better than the 4k, which I assume is lowest common denominator for
browsers.
I get this result when I use a modeless dialog.
showModelessDialog("http://" + document.location.hostname + ":9000/",top);
Results may vary with other techniques.
