[Mtamazon] MTAmazonASIN blanks?

Ok, now I'm really confused ... I switched to using a different linking 
method ... instead of MTAmazonLink, I'm constructing the URL myself ... 
but now the MTAmazonASIN tag is blank!

<MTAmazon search="B0000C8VEK" method="Asin" line="photo"><a href = 
"http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/<MTAmazonASIN>/<MTAmazonAssociateID>/ref=nosim/"><img 
src="<MTAmazonMediumImage>" align="left" border="0">Cannon Digital 
Rebel</a> is the right camera for me.</MTAmazon>

The image and associateid are both correct ... but the <MTAmazonASIN> 
tag contains nothing.

Seems like everything is working fine ... except the critical parts.
