Two "compose mail" messages? I often do, and I checked again, now,  
and the inactive compose window is just like the main viewer window:  
much lighter and obviously different.

I suppose, on a 12" iBook, my active app tends to take up all the  
real-estate anyway, so I don't usually need to distinguish between  
apps. It's very easy to distinguish between active and passive  
windows of the same app.
