SP is a very common term outside of MS in version numbers. If I were to say SP1 in a JBoss forum, they would assume I was talking about JBoss 4.03 Service Pack 1. To assume SP is used just by Microsoft would show that this discussion were taking place in a non-technical computer list. I know you said 'primarily', but that reinforces this fact, I believe.
