I'll say I like having "reply to sender" be the default for mailing lists. 
You should have to make an explicit action to reply to the list where tens 
or hundreds (or thousands?) of people are going to receive your message.

Think about it this way - the consequence of accidentally doing the default 
reply when the list is "reply to sender" is that the list doesn't get the 
message you sent (or the original poster gets 2 copies when you re-post 
your message). If the list is "reply to list", the consequence of 
accidentally doing the default reply is that you've sent a private message 
to the entire list.

Besides, most capable email clients have a "Reply to Readers" option which 
would get your To field pre-filled with the list's address.
