Reading GMail with OW

I've been using OW as my main browser today and I have found that it
is really difficult to use with Gmail.

I am used to using the spacebar to scroll to the next page, but that
doesn't seem to work.  I find I have to click somewhere on the page to
return focus to the page itself, and then I can use the spacebar to
scroll.

Is therer a workaround for this?
