Rather than closing the windows the first workspace, create a new
workspace for the new search. When you close the windows, you lose
the content, unless you have taken a snapshot. Always create
workspaces with the auto-save option.

I hope I have not misunderstood your question. It seems to me your
previous workspace is not still active. Unless, I guess, you took a
snapshot. Personally, I don't take snapshots, I always create new
workspaces, and do not run into the sort of conundrum you describe.

It seems to me the feature set of workspaces has been stagnant since
shortly after they were introduced. There are a number of natural
operations one would like to be able to perform on workspaces that,
much to my surprise, have never been introduced. One would be what
(I think) you were wanting to do, sort of a "Save as..." of a workspace.

Another would be to create a new workspace without switching to it.
I often want to do this just so I can prune my current workspace.

It would also be nice to be able to move individual tabs between
workspaces, instead of being limited to pages of tabs.
