Can't Add to Bookmarks

Navigating to a site and clicking on 'Add to Bookmarks' has no 
effect. Any attempts to add a bookmark directly in the Bookmarks 
window leads to wonky results -- every addition is a folder, not a 
bookmark, the name and URL contents switch back and forth.

My System:  20" iMac Intel (early 2006) / 2 GB RAM / 2 ghz /
                           OS 10.5.4 Leopard / OmniWeb 5.7 / Eudora 6.2.4
