Well, Joel, you where somewhat on the right track. The area you were in allows you to add or delete what search engines you would like on your drop box. How to get the drop box back. Instead of going to Tools>Preferences go to Tools>Appearance. This brings up the Appearance panel. (You can do the same thing by right clicking on a toolbar and then selecting Customize.) Besides being able to select what toolbars you would like from the toolbars tab you can also select what buttons you would like on these toolbars by going to the buttons tab. From the buttons tab go to the search category. The very last search box is the one with the drop down box. By left clicking it you can drag it to a toolbar and position it where you want. As I recall it will not drag to just any of the toolbars. So if it doesn't place where you want it, try it on a different toolbar. If you haven't tried customizing this is a great way to get Opera to look and work the way you want. Want a button you can press with your cursor to go to the URL that you just typed in. Go to browser view and drag the "Go" button to the right of the address box for example. Now you have one. Want a digital clock in a toolbar. Go to the Status category and drag "Clock" to the left of the address box or wherever. Now you have one. Hope this helps. Till yesterday, I had a dropdown menu consisting of Google, Ask, Yahoo, Amazon, Wikipedia, eBay, Yahoo Shopping and others. In order to re-instate these choices in this dropdown menu, I've gone to Preferences>Search>Manage your search engines. I've highlighted each selection I wanted back in this dropdown menu and clicked on "add" but nothing happened. Obviously, to re-populate this dropdown menu, I need instructions in lay term on a novice level, since I'm a beginner. I deleted and downloaded Opera 9.63 again, but the problem remained. I'm running Opera version 9.63, Build 5261 on a Mac mini running Mac OS X 10.5.6. Any help in plain, non-technical English will greatly appreciated. Thanks to all in advance.
