Because Opera has been against HTML email from the beginning :) I'm not sure what it looks like on a fresh install (or even on anyone else's upgrade) but for me the option to switch over to HTML was hidden away and not very obvious. It seems that by default the mail program will choose plaintext emails over HTML (which you can change). Anyway, what's the trouble with your mail? If you do an upgrade then Opera 10 should request to convert your mail database (which may take a few minutes, or so it claims) and then you should be OK. Have you heavily customized your install? Which operating system are you using, again?
