want to upgrade, but ....

I'm running Opera 9.62.
Lots and lots of bookmarks, notes, widgets, and all the settings the way I
like 'em.
but I'm wanting to upgrade to the most recent release (10.50 isn't it?).
I know I can save and/or move the bookmarks, notes, other files (done it
before).
Will upgrading OVER my current installation 'convert' anything, that would
make it difficult to go back to 9.62 if I'm not happy with the upgrade?
I know I can put it in a new folder and do it as a new installation, but I
really don't want that.  One 'puter I had about 7 differernt Opera
installations, and don't want to do that again.
So will upgrading make it impossible to go back?
