Two possibilities that you could check:

(1) I don't know if this will help, but have you checked whether "Block
External Elements" is turned on? With the email open, click on the View
button on the email toolbar, then go down to Display and several options,
including "Block External Elements", will be displayed. For me, this was
causing emails with linked graphics to display only the text. If your
photos are embedded in the email, this won't help.

(2) Have you checked that "Show Images" is selected in the View popup menu
at the right-hand end of the status bar? There are three choices - Show
images, Cached images, and No images. This will affect embedded images.

Regarding saving - are you getting a drop-down list of attachments in the
email heading (just under the From and To fields)? If so, the "Save as..."
option allows you to choose where to save them. If you click the "Save to
download folder" option the attachments should be saved in the downloads
folder you've specified in Preferences > Advanced > Downloads.

If this doesn't help, maybe someone else has the right answer!
