As well as the backing up link Kenneth gave you, the Opera install wizard gives you a choice whenever you move to a newer version. I forget the exact wording but one of the two choices states that current settings will be saved. Your Opera bookmarks can be quickly saved via File - Import and Export - Export Opera Bookmarks. You can save (Export) them to a USB stick, CD, an external hard drive, or your Desktop.
