Thank you very much!! Now I just have to either import the old settings ( & mail) into the new ".opera" directory or vice-versa. Yes, the command line thing does involve a script, which I looked at, and it does indeed have the wrong location for the Opera binary which I may try to fix later. With all the good help here, I'm getting a little more confident that most mistakes are recoverable!
