Disabling (or extending) OperaShow functionality

G'day.
Having used OperaShow a few times, and some of the other "HTML based
presentation" tools[1] under other browsers, I am a little curious.
At present tools like S5 that maintain some semblance of compatibly with
OperaShow are pretty much stuck being unable to extend it. For example, S5
can display slide counts anywhere but when OperaShow is involved.
Is there any sensible way to either disable the OperaShow feature, to allow S5
full control, or to extend OperaShow to implement a similar facility?
