I played with this for some time using strace to figure out
what on earth opera thought it wanted.

I install with:

./install.sh --prefix=/usr/local --exec_prefix=/usr/local/lib/opera
--wrapperdir=/usr/local/lib/opera/wrapper --docdir=/usr/local/lib/opera/doc
--sharedir=/usr/local/lib/opera --plugindir=/usr/local/lib/opera/plugins
/bin/ln -s /usr/local/lib/opera/operaplugin* /usr/local/lib/opera/plugins

so that everything is in /usr/local/lib/opera and then run with
the OPERA_DIR set to /usr/local/lib/opera. But now, it seems
that even though OPERA_DIR is still an environment variable for
OPERA the shared directory ( the opera -sharedir command line option)
is no longer set to that if you don't have the -sharedir option
on your command line.

It would be nice if changes like this were documented.

When I use "opera -sharedir /usr/local/lib/opera" 10 seems to
work.
