In Opera 11, Alt will by default do the same but one can configure a  
shortcut
to do it instead. If that is done Alt alone will no longer trigger the  
menu.

So in Opera 11, in the Application section of the keyboard setup assign a
shortcut like "m alt" or something else to "Show Main Menu". There has to
be one shortcut assigned. Completely removing it is not supported.

I hope this will be back in 11 along with support for drag-n-drop to the
workspace. It is a matter of getting the code that do this accepted for
inclusion.
