choose the best of breed add-ons and then include them in the install page as an *option*.  I must admit I only read 9 out of the 11 pages in this thread, so I hope this hasn't been covered.

The idea is not to vote on which modules should be incorporated, but vote on which modules are bug free, add value to a majority of users and are built in such a way that they would survive to future milestones.

So the install page would basically have a large list of possibilities with short descriptions and a link next to it for more information which would provide greater explanation, pros/cons, security issues and possible consequences assiciated with that add-on.  The user would then spend some time making these decisions, but wouldn't have to install individual packages in order to get valuable functionality.

This would give the user more freedom and simplifies the whole argument of which contributions to include, i.e. we include ALL the good ones, you choose which ones you want/need.  Obviously agreement will never be reached...just look at the size of this thread!  :shock:
