not likely,

there is a plan eventually to integrate some of the contributions into the core.

the amount of work involved in updating to later versions of cvs depends on how many customizations you have done (contributions, etc)

i would strongly recommend beyond compare it is a critical tool on the windows platform to see difference

most contributions are well commented so that changes and be made easily
