I don't know if this was brought up before throughout this thread, but I am short on time and skimming the posts quite quickly.  This only covers a piece of the whole pie being discussed here though.

I have been thoroughly impressed with Mambo Open Source's template installation process.  It's only a matter of uploading a few files into a directory and the system recognizes it from the admin end of the stick. I have yet to look at the entire guts of the project to realize how the system entirely works but it may offer a different perspective on the debate.
