RE: interesting sales tax question

Not trying to beat a dead horse here, but guys... what you are saying is simply not correct in the city of Denver, Colorado.  I'm not disputing that it's true where you guys live; but to simply throw a blanket across everywhere isn't accurate information.  Some people might read this and follow your advice only to discover that it isn't totally accurate where they live.

In the city of Denver, CO, a retailer MUST list any tax being charged to the customer [i]as a seperate line item[/i] at the time of sale - period.  End of discussion.  This is the way it is.  You cannot combine them into one line item.

I completely understand what you are both saying.  It's just that it doesn't apply to our situation.  It might work for some, or even most - but not us.  Colroado law is quite clear and specific about how taxes are supposed to be handled by retailers.
