easy:
- never need to specify more than one filename for an image
- processing uploads and creation of thumbnail, size-limited "big" images
- placing copy of uploaded file into special directory (for reference)
- placing thumbnailimage into /products 
- placing big image into /products/images_big/
- create popup-image autodetects filename and uses big image instread of small one...
- /images/categories/
- /images/manufacturers/
- /images/products/
- /images/buttons/
- /images/tables/
- /images/banners/
- /images/...
... this way the images directory does not get totally messed up 
... each directory containing a corresponding images_big subdirectory (where it makes sense... no images_big for icons *G*)
