If the tax was only dependant on the county you were in, why would you need a city tax? I may be wrong but if it worked that way it would seem kind of redundant to give a city a specific tax when the county tax is the one that is used in calculations.
Here's another mindteaser. I assume you do know that the only location the tax goes by is by the MAIN account address information...This can be a trap because now a customer uses his credit card in S.F or Huntington Beach but has his order shipped to Memphis, TN. Should he be charged CA tax just because he uses a credit card that has the billing address in CA?
Yes, they should be charged tax. If the credit card billing address is in Huntington, then the individual has a residence there, therefore needs to pay the Huntington tax. If I live in Huntington and buy something for a relative in New York and have New York as the shipping address, I still have to pay Huntington tax, assuming the shop I bought from is in Huntington also.
Plus the customer is given wrong information when he selects his billing address as Memphis, TN...but really the tax and credit card will be processed as CA.
I imagine there might be some person out there that has two houses in two different states that has different credit cards for each state, but I don't know if I would re-write the code in my shop for them. That's just me though.
