Tax question regarding how much to collect

I might be able to assist this question. I had this same question when I started my online corporation and talked to the State Tax Dept.
They refer to collecting the applicable sales tax in your county..location of your business..as this is where what they call "nexus" occurs. This is a really stupid and ambigous way of saying that even though someone buys from you online, they are actually conducting business with you at your location. I was also told that I did not have to collect sales tax from anyone outside of my state. My suggestion would be contact the State Department, talk to the sales tax department, have them email you an answer to your question and identifying themselves in the email, then print the email correspondence and keep it on file in your office. Now, a side note to this is that if you use Clickbank for any digital download products, you are in fact not considered to be the retailer, as Clickbank claims that title, so in essence you are a wholesaler and should receive a resale certificate from Clickbank and not have to charge sales tax to anyone in any state. I am aware that VAT tax for Eu
 ro countries is now starting to gain enforcement in the United States...Clickbank now charges for it on Euro sales. I think this is unfortunate...but at this point not much can be done that I am aware of ....maybe we should teach the europeans about the Boston Tea Party....and no offense to those of you from Europe..I have the highest regard for Europeans and wish we all didn't have to pay taxes. At any rate, I'm not sure how other payment processors work...as Clickbank is somewhat of a hybrid...so you'll have to enquire individually with them as to whether you are considered the retailer or wholesaler. By all means though..everyone, support the fight against state by state mandatory internet sales tax....write your congressmen and senators....and demand they not allow the accounting nightmare that it would cause.
