Change layout of store

I am a web designer but I am new to oscommerce. I need help in changing the look of my store. I need to add flash buttons and cool graphics, etc. Where do I do this easily?

Also, when I am entering products, is there an easy way to add options (size, color)?  My client has about 5000 items with all different options (colors, sizes, etc.). Thanks so much for your help.
