Reason being that it will make it easier to convert from a table based layout to a CSS only layout. Also, if you want, Brendan is trying to move the default to a more CSS based system, so you might be able to get him to integrate changes into the base system. That would make it easier for you the next time you want to develop a site. Hth, Matt
