You can see the shopping cart just fine now. (click the 'Cart Contents' link in the upper right corner). When you click on the link it shows that there is nothing in the shopping cart. I see categories, but no products on your site. So, first add a few products (on the admin side) then (on the catalog side) select one and then click the 'Add to Cart' button. After you have added somthing to the cart then click the 'Cart Contents' button to see it.

As for SSL you only need this when you are ready to start taking real orders. For now I suggest turning it off. After you find out how to use your hosting companies SSL (or better yet, pay $70 a year for your own) then you can start working on turing it back on. This can be a whole project by itself. Take it one step at a time.

After you have turned off the SSL feature, you should be able to use the 'Checkout' process.
