RE: Use CSS/XHTML for templates (MS3)

After reading this entire topic and seeing that it seems to have hit a dead end I would like to post my views.

If MS-3 is going to see the implementation of seperating php code from html then at this point would seem the logical place to convert all that old html to xhtml.

There is a transitional DTD for xhtml that would mean everything would still work the same as it did in html, and the old contribs that are modified for the new template system would also still work.


If I understand you correctly however you have decided to go ahead with CSS layout, but stick with old html.

This in my honest opinion is really stupid.

As has been said above, the difference between HTML and XHTML is very small.   If you are going for CSS layout instead of tables, then that is where the biggest work load is anyway, converting all tables to divs.  If you are changing all these tags anyway, what is the harm in making sure they validate as XHTML strict even?

I see no reason to go with CSS and leave out XHTML.  In my view it should be CSS/XHTML or not.  I would prefer the former.


I would also like to take the time to say that this post is not meant to seem insulting.  I have the highest respect for the oscommerce team for creating such an amazing piece of software for free.  These are just my personal opinions on the CSS layout issue.
