An extra column for customers

Here in Mexico, for every sell, it is required to add a string called RFC for taxes purposes, and as I've seen in some other countries, they have an equivalent "tax identificator" for the customer, as well invoices made have to have this same RFC for the selling company/person.

Is it possible to add this column, at least, as optional for the standard customer data? I am still too new in OsCommerce, but I am really afraid of trying to do that big change by myself, if it is possible.

For example this kind of data could be much more useful, in our case than the birth date of the customer (that seems to be a problem for ladies to fill up).
