The true way to work with others is to be modular.  OSC understands this.  This is why they are working on creating [url=http://www.oscommerce.com/community/workboard,47]classes[/url] and [url=http://www.oscommerce.com/community/workboard,48]template support[/url], to make it possible to integrate with other projects *without* gutting the code.  What you are talking about is making a competing complete solution, which will work great until someone tries to install a contribution that uses the code you gutted out because you had something else that you preferred.

Which is, of course, why tepNuke is no longer developed.
