We don't want to talk you into things. And we don't want to promote Postnuke or anything but you could at least evaluate the features of the forthcoming Postnuke .8

The core will function without the many modules phpNuke needs and postnuke .7 still needs. You could use the core of postnuke with it's permission-, templating and user system to integrate into osc. That way you could concentrate on your shopping system and let other people do their job on the permission-, templating and user system. You could release osc with a romp-postnuke and nobody would notice, if he doesn't want to. 

But this way osc could be expanded with all the modules, postnuke already offers. 

A modern shopping site like Amazon consists of much more than you a kart system - you need user comments aso. Comments are eg already available as hook-module. This can be "hooked" into any supporting module. 

But it's your choice to waste time on work that has already been done by other people. You are free to do that ;-)
