step by step product selection / wizard?

I don't think such a contribution exists, but:

I want to set up a "Wizard" where a customer goes through steps to put together a finished product.

I.E. a belts store:

Step 1 - choose your belt - style/color/skin/size
Step 2 - choose your buckle - style/color
Step 3 - your are done!

Or more steps depending on the products..

Not essential but it would be nice if each wizard result was somehow saved in case someone wanted to use the wizard more than once in a single order (say for 3 belt/buckle sets)

Any ideas?

I might try to tackle something like this on my own but I am a novice PHP programmer and could use some help..
