----------------------------------------------------------------

I currently have my store set up with 3 different shipping methods.

Royal Mail UK Royal Mail Recorded (up to 5KG)
Royal Mail UK Special Delivery (up to 10KG)
Royal Mail Standard Parcel Services (up to 30KG)

These are all modified zone methods with shipping tables configured in each.

What I would like to be able to do is set a maximum weight limit on each of these shipping methods. For example, lets say a customer orders 40KG of products. These would be the options available to the customer:-

Royal Mail Recorded - 8 Packages of 5KG each = £whatever
Royal Mail UK Special Delivery - 4 packages of 5 KG each = £whatever
Royal Mail Standard Parcel Service - 1 Package of 30KG and 1 package of 10KG - £whatever.

OScommerece 2.2 MS2 does have a maximum shipping weight setting, but this is for all shipping methods combined. It also does not divide up the packages correctly. Lets say you have a single item that is greater than the max shipping weight. OSC will divide your single package into 2. See http://www.oscommerce.com/community/bugs,1170 Also, when the shipping calculation is done, it doesn't actually tell you that the package has been split. All it does is show you the new shipping price.

They way my site is set up at the moment is to set the maximum shipping weight to 30. But this means that the only available option for the customer is to us Royal Mail Standard Parcel Service (which only allow compensation up to £500) whereas my customer should have the option of using Special Delivery with up to £2500 compensation per package. One of the reasons why I would recommend this type of contribution.
