OK. Now what???

While I'm not sure if this is right, here's what I did with the little debugging thing:

<td><?php ':' . $request_type . ':'; ?></td>


Which in turn did nothing as far as I can see when I look at my index.php page. Admittedly, I'm clueless. How does this help me to debug?
