indexing pdf files

I'm a relative newbie to perl, etc. I have nevertheless set up perlfect search and gotten it running :) But I was hoping to index pdf files too, especially since I noticed that possibility on the perlfect.com site. But my site is with a hosting provider, I don't have full control of the server, and I'm thinking that maybe I thus can not install xpdf?? I have tried to understand how to install it, but think maybe that I must have full control of the server. Am I right?
