Fatal error in calendar

When I try to enter a new appointment in the calendar, I get a fatal error

 Fatal error: Cannot use string offset as an array in /xxx/phpgroupware/calendar/inc/class.bocalendar.inc.php on line 1123

I'm using php 5.2.3.
I installed the latest phpgroupware version and I also tried the work arround from the forum, still get the error.

It used to work with PHP 4.
