When I first installed POT, I did not take advantage of the 
mysql_merge option. In hindsight, this was a rather large 
oversight because I am tracking about 8-10 websites through one 
installation of POT, and the sites are medium trafficked. This 
means that the database filled up quickly with data, and the 
reporting took *forever* to generate. Once I switched over to 
mysql_merge, my reports sped right up. I found switching from 
mysql to mysql_merge quite a hassle though. There were alot of 
problems getting the DB modified properly for that (the split 
tables script does NOT work). I've since installed POT on another 
network, but started with mysql_merge and had no problems when 
choosing this option from the beginning.

I recommend speaking with your host. They may install the 
packages for you, or provide with you with shell access to 
perform the installs yourself.
