Yes that does answer the question. 
If you see http://gcc.gnu.org/java/status.html

you will see that that is only a partial implementation.
Most Linux distributions will not bundle a Sun Java implementation due
to the license. (non free, non GNU) (Suse Enterprise is an exception)

So best is to install a Java version. You can find a rpm at Sun. Best
is to Google a bit for your distro.
I use Fedora for test  so I cannot help you there.
It is mostly a manner of running an installer and tellling the distro
to use that Java instead.

A bit of a bummer. I rather they did not bundle gc(i)j since this
causes a lot of problems for mostg Java projects.
