Re: XML .alb files?

Petite,

Ahem, yes, PL is in the running as a replacement technology, as is
YAML and text/plain.

Here's my little write up ;)

I've hated Castor since day one. It is a giant pain in the butt, which
is not so surprising since it uses code generation. But at the time,
it was one of the few options for doing XML binding. So I have wanted
to replace Castor for at least 2 years, but I've been too lazy to rip
it out. Also, during those 2 years I have not once heard any Pixory
user say that they are actually doing anything with the XML, or that
they appreciate the format.

More importantly, Pixory is evolving in a direction that will make the
current XML based PXAlbumContent design obsolete. A lot of the stuff
that's in the XML file will migrate to other locations. As a result, I
started thinking about simpler XML binding approaches (like XStream).
And there was enough momentum behing that train of thought that it
carried over into the idea of ditching XML altogether.

The noodle is very loose right now. But the idea is that the current
.alb files convolve two very different things. They contain layout
settings for the presentation of the album, and they contain
narratives/captions that represent content. Probably these two things
should live in different places. And in the case of the
captions/narratives, it's not even clear to me that I need a
structured document format. Perhaps I can just use plan text :).

Alright! As long as I have the blessing of a higher-authority, I feel
I'm on firm footing. Alleluiah!

regards,

joe
