In one terminal I ran:

$ rm -rf ~/env/cache/polipo/*
$ strace -o log.text -s 10000 polipo socksParentProxy="localhost:9050"
localDocumentRoot="" diskCacheRoot=~/env/cache/polipo
Established listening socket on port 8123.

While in the other:

$ time curl -H "Pragma: " -s -x localhost:8123

sys	0m0.000s
$ sleep 5
$ time curl -H "Pragma: " -s -x localhost:8123

user	0m0.000s
sys	0m0.004s
$ sleep 60

I've also been able to reproduce it on FreeBSD; I can give you kdump
files if you want.
