I agree.

However, I had been hoping that someone might have already written a utility
or worked out how to do it.

I have already started to look at how it might be done but my programming
skills are minimal and any solution I come up with is bound to be a crude
hack.

With wwwoffle I keep six months of browsing history, about 5GB.
